Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA)

Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA) was discovered some years ago and caused to scientific sensation. This fatty acid found in red meat and cheese showed strong anti-cancer properties. CLA reduces body fat by enhancing insulin sensitivity so that fatty acids and glucose can pass through muscle cell membranes and away from fat tissue. This fatty acid protects against disease with unique mechanisms and makes CLA to an important addition to any supplement program.

The results of the CLA Research

CLA has been the subject of a variety of research in the past several years, and findings also suggest that some of the other benefits of CLA include the following:

  • Increases metabolic rate - Obviously is a positive benefit for diet consumers so they can reduce the metabolic rate.

  • linoleic acid makes cholesterol more susceptible to oxidation, while CLA makes cholesterol more stable.



All results above conducts that CLA is safe and effective for weight loss but... There is always but... After clinical trials on mice and rates results promised CLA's wonderful properties as antioxidant and anti-tumor too but the only problem is that human body do not react to CLA in same way. Humans reduced a body fat but CLA may create resistance to insulin and to cause to increasing the risk of diabetes.

According the study of U.S. Department of Agriculture in 2006 concluded that usage of CLA can cause to redistribution of fatty acids in the tissue of body organs like: heart, brain and spleen. They raised concerns that CLA may cause to serious cardiac health risks and risk of inflammatory diseases too.

The Bottom line is, that there is not enough clinically proved info about human clinical studies performed on CLA supplements regarding to their safety or effectively burn or reduce fat.

In case you decide to take CLA anyway:

  • CLA is a supplement and as such it does not require a prescription. It is available at health food stores and at online outlets.

  • Experts recommend using of patented name brand, as some brands have inconsistent or insufficient amounts of CLA contained in them.

  • Anyway you would need to take 3-4 of these capsules a day, with meals.

IMPORTANT: Please remember, there is no way that CLA alone will help you lose weight. You still need to be, on a balanced, reduced-calorie, low-glycemic diet and have to incorporate regular, vigorous exercise and weight bearing activities into your life.
