It is not safe to lose weight if you have gained more weight than recommended during the beginning of your pregnancy. Do not try to lose weight!

Here are some tips to slow your weight gain and you can eat a variety of foods to get all the nutrients you and your baby need:

Tip 1: When eating out at a fast food restaurant or wherever, avoid fried foods such as French fries, mozzarella sticks, or breaded chicken patties. And you should choose lower fat items such as broiled chicken breast sandwich with tomato and lettuce (no sauce or mayonnaise), side salad with low-fat dressing, plain bagels or plain baked potato.

Tip 2: It is often recommended to avoiding whole milk products. But you need at least four servings of milk products everyday. However, using skim, 1%, or 2% milk will greatly reduce the amount of calories and fat you eat. And also choose low-fat or fat-free yogurt or cheese.

Tip 3: To avoid extra calories you must limit sweet or sugary drinks. Sweetened drinks such as soft drinks, fruit punch, fruit drinks, lemonade, iced tea, or powdered drink mixes provide many calories with little nutrients. Choose water, club soda, or mineral water.

Tip 4: Salt causes your body to retain water. So, do not add salt to foods when cooking.

Tip 5: You should limit sweets and high calorie snacks. Biscuits, candies, donuts, cakes, syrup, honey, and potato chips because they are provided many calories with little nutrition. So, try not to eat these types of foods. Instead, try to eat fresh fruit, low-fat yogurt, angel food cake with strawberries, or pretzels as lower calorie snack and dessert choices.

Tip 6: To avoid increasing the calories and fat of meal, you have to prepare meals using low-fat cooking methods. Don’t frying food in butter or oil. Baking, broiling, grilling, or boiling are healthier, lower fat methods of cooking.
